School of Rock Empty School of Rock

Post by Peter Parker Fri Oct 14, 2016 7:09 pm

Monday started differently to most, as Peter had swung (not literally) by Betsy's to pick her up in the morning. How he knew where she lived was his own secret, but in reality it had involved stalking her home just so he could find out. Re-enlisting her into school was the easy part, the hard part was catching her up. Peter had been assigned her mentor for her transition period so that she could get all the help she needed. Whilst he would do that, he'd also use it to keep an eye on her and stay in touch should the need arise.

At lunch he asked her to meet him in the storage room by the cafeteria, not for any purpose other than to discuss their next move in Queens. Two gangs were still at war and there was plenty of crime they needed to stop. So at 12:10 Peter waited in the store room, leaning idly against the shelves. The room was made so that some shelves sat in the middle, meaning anyone who entered would have to walk around them to see who else was in the room.

Betsy stormed into the storage room swearing up a storm, her now bare feet making soft thumps as she walked. "Devil shoes." She hissed and threw them to the side, flinching when they loudly smacked against a metal shelf.

"Never letting Siren tress me up like her friggin barbie doll again." She growled, pulling her hair out of the little bun on top and letting the short waves fall to just above her shoulders.

So far Betsy's day had been less than pleasant. Teachers who looked at her with slight fear, the ones who had read her record. Other teachers who looked at her like she was stupid, who cared about finding the quotient when dividing polynomials?

"This better be good Peter, I'm half considering throttling your arachnid ass for convincing me to come back to this seething sespool of bimbos and algebra." She turned around the corner to the shelves, arms crossed over her chest and a scowl on her face.

School of Rock Empty Re: School of Rock

Post by Damian Fri Oct 14, 2016 7:28 pm

"Come on then punk, not so brave now are ya?" said the individual stood in front of Damian. The man himself was shorter than him but bulkier. A large bruise decorated his left cheek. Around Damian stood four other men. His heart was almost racing. Almost.
He had taught himself to remain calm in these kinds of situations, and he had been in them before. After school fights, sparring in martial arts, random hoodrats starting what they sometimes could or couldn't finish on the quieter streets of New York.

It turned out that this would be different though. Yesterday, the man in front of him tried to rob him of his money. Damians answer left him groaning on the floor, clutching at the side of his cheek. Looks like he brought his friends this time. After almost a minute of standing silently, the thug in front of him lost patience.
"That's it, it's time to teach you a lesson kid!" And all four advanced on him at once. Damian stepped forward quickly and delivered a powerful strike to the same thug's nose with his fist. A soft crunching sound emitted from the point of impact and the thug was again on the floor, this time clutching at the center of his face. However in this time, the other four had closed in quick and before he knew it, a powerful fist struck his own cheek...

As Peter heard Betsy come in he laughed, taking great pleasure in her disliking of school. After all, he expected no less of her since she told him how much she hated it.
"It's important, alright?" He tried to remained serious but couldn't help a small smirk at her unhappy face.

"Look, the Tigers and the Reapers are still angry over the gunfight. Things are only gonna get worse unless we do something. We need a way of getting information on them both." His eyes looked around to make sure no one was around, not like they would be. "I suggest we tap their phones, listen to conversations. I'll need your help though."

"You know, your smirk may be cute but it only makes me want to punch you more." She pouted, rolling her eyes as a slight gold glimmer ran across them. She took her gloves off, she hadn't taken them off all day despite people telling her to do so. She was still nervous about being around so many people.

Betsy scoffed, blowing a strand of wavy dark brown hair out of her face. "How do you suppose we'll get their phones? Bat our pretty little eyelashes and say please?" She didn't know why, but she found it hard not to be so cynical and sarcastic around Peter. Perhaps it was because he was so optimistic that it was almost annoying.

School of Rock Empty Re: School of Rock

Post by Damian Fri Oct 14, 2016 9:24 pm

Damian was knocked to the side a few steps.. right into another thug who slammed his fist into the right side of his jaw. This sent him on another stumble but this time he controlled himself, biting his teeth together to numb the pain on both sides of his face. He felt wind against both sides as the arms of another thug came down over his shoulders and pulled back. The kinkling of a silver chain alerted him to what the thug was trying to do, and both of his hands instincively shot up to grab the chain before it reached his neck. The thug tried hard to pull backwards and strangle him but Damian kept his grip firm. They stumbled back a few steps due to their struggle.

By this time, the other three thrugs had approached them both and one of them closed in to get a punch into his gut. Damian shot up his right leg in a kick that caught the man under the chin. The impact sent him stumbling backwards with a loud grunt. Meanwhile the other two closed in quick and Damian was forced to bring his leg up and match their strikes, trying to block each with his shin. The limb began to go numb and so did his hands. Quickly, he jerked his head back and caught the man attempting to strangle him right on the cheekbone. The hit was enough to slightly diminish his strength. He let go of the chain with one hand and sent an elbow back into the man's ribs. Then, he quickly grabbed the chain again, pulled it back over his head, brought his other leg down and pivoted, swinging the man into the other two.

One of the other two thugs managed to dodge their friend being thrown at them, but the other failed to react on time and both were sent sprawling to the floor in a heap. The remaining thug charged into him, but Damian held his ground against the man's weight, sending a series of short range punches into his cut before finishing with an uppercut to his nose.

"Why thank you," He smirked again, trying to hide how taken aback he was by her compliment. "It's not about physically tapping their devices, we can tap their network instead. Look I know alot about technology," His hand raised up to half-show the concealed webshooters hidden in his sleeves. "If we get to the mast I can tap into that and single out their specific phone numbers. Listen and record calls between their phones."

"However the Reapers guard the mast personally, in fact I bet they're listening to the Tiger's calls already, so it'll be abit of a fight getting in."

Betsy instantly brightened, a slightly malicious look in her eyes. "A fight? I get to punch people?" A grin spread across Betsy's face and her eyes glowed a light gold. She cracked her knuckles, sorely wishing she had her leather jacket and mask with her so she could take off right then and there.

She glanced at Peter's sleeve and she frowned, "Why the hell would you have that on in school?" Then she rolled her eyes and spoke sarcastically, "Suppose you have the suit on underneath there like superman too, huh?"

School of Rock Empty Re: School of Rock

Post by Damian Sat Oct 15, 2016 2:14 pm

Suddenly, Damian felt a sharp pain in his side and his vision went red. He looked down to see the thug that he had kicked earlier holding a blade - which was halfway inside Damian's body. The thug pulled the knife out and blood started to leak from the wound excessively. For a moment all Damian felt was numbness, and then the pain settled in and thus he began to go into shock. Clutching at his side, he dropped to his knees, breathing heavily.

His attacker's friends regrouped and looked on, their eyes wide open.
"What the hell did you just do!?"
"Forget it! Let's get out of here!"
And they were gone.

Damian felt the world begin to blur, until he noticed that the pain began to subside really quickly. He looked down at his side and saw that his blood drenched wound was not bleeding anymore. Confused, he lifted his shirt up and found that the skin around his wound had taken a solid grey colour. He reached down and touched the area. Rock. His skin was solid rock.
"What the hell..." he said, expressing his confusion. His heart at this point was still beating and the adrenaline rush in his body from the stab wound was still prevalent. Lowering his shirt, he clutched his side to hide the wound. Middletown High was only around the corner, maybe he could get himself checked by the nurse.

As he re-entered the school, he quickly made his way toward the section of the building where the nurse's office was located. His wide-eyed expression and the way he clutched at his side drew a few stares from people but he moved quickly, until he felt something on his hands - like pins and needles. He looked down and to his shock, both of his hands were turning grey as well. They were turning to stone.

Confused and even afraid, he quickly changed his course and made his way to the storage room. He needed a moment to himself. Find out what was happening. He neared the door to the room and practically burst into it, shutting the door behind him with a slam.

"Yeah, but we're not killing anyone remember?" Peter warned, hoping that thought would never cross her mind. He then looked to his webshooters. "Just in case, and the suit's stashed nearby. It'd be awkward if I had to take it off for sports, or if anyone looked in my bag."

"Who's Super-" A loud slam interrupted his question, causing him to look around the shelves. "Okay, don't make this seem weird." Peter said, before slowly coming out from behind the shelves. "Hey, what's-" Again he was stopped, this time by the site of a man who had rock for hands.

Betsy snorted, rolling her eyes as he looked around the shelves. "Oh please, like people would think I'd drag you here to do something." She referenced his comment on not making this weird, "You aren't my type." Then she came out from behind the shelves as well, looking vaguely annoyed.

Although the annoyed expression quickly dropped at the sight of the man, her eyes focusing on his hands. She recovered fairly quickly, clapping a hand on Peter's shoulder with a grin. "Well, looks like you've got a new sidekick. Don't need me anymore." She whistled, moving to the shelves to collect her shoes.

Damian let go of his side, explosing the blood covered cloth, and looked down at both hands. His heart was pounding and he began to feel the pins and needles sensation on more parts of his body now. His legs and upper body all seemed to be affected by the sensation.
"What.. what the.." he choked out, his voice almost whisper. But then he noticed movement and looked up.

It was that one smart kid from two years lower than him. What was he doing here? But he wasn't alone, another kid joined him, this one a girl and an unfamiliar face. For a moment he wondered why they would be in the room, but then realised that he was exposed. He looked down again, the effect had crawled up his arms and he was feeling it on his neck now.
"I-I can e-explain.." He stuttered.

"You're not going anywhere," Peter pointed at Betsy, making sure she didn't see this as an excuse to go back on their deal. "You don't need to explain anything, come round here before anyone else comes in." He beckoned Damian around the shelves. Keeping Betsy on the same side of the shelves too, he focused on Damian.

"Okay, this is weird. By the sounds of it this hasn't happened before, but you're not alone." His eyes flickered to Betsy. "Show him." He figured it would be easier for her to do a little light trick than for him to scale the wall.

Betsy pouted, crossing her arms. "I hate you, you know that?" She grumbled before she rolled her eyes. Betsy looked between the two boys, a cheshire grin starting to curl on her lips. Might as well give them both a show,eh?

Betsy straightened, pushing the sleeves of her sweater up and rolling her shoulders. She flexed her fingers, a gold glimmer running across her iris's as the air in the room grew hot. Betsy's palms started to glow but it didn't stop there, the glow seemed to spread through the veins in her arms making them appear gold instead of blue.

Anyone who even remotely knew Betsy knew she loved to be dramatic, so she cracked her neck and all of a sudden the tips of her short brown hair were sparking until they burst into flames as did her arms and hands. "Satisfied Thing 1 and Thing 2?"

Damian followed Peter around the shelves and watched in awe the performance put on by Betsy. By now the stone had spread up his neck and had affected both sides of his face, however at this point the spread seemed to slow down too.

"What.. what the hell.." was all he could manage.
"This is too much, I don't understand. What am I then?"

Peter looked around nervously as Betsy put on her show, worried that someone else might walk in to see fire girl and rock boy. When that didn't happen though he could relax, and instead focus on calming Damian.
"You're a..." He paused for a moment, thinking before continuing. "We don't know what we are. I'm not sure how Betsy got her powers, but I got mine from being bitten."

"It seems though your case is more similar to hers," His eyes darted between the two. "I think if you just relax for a moment, let yourself be calm, it might go away." He looked to Betsy for some input, after all she was more qualified with powers affected by anger or stress.

"I got my powers because I'm a mutant Parker," Betsy piped up then rolled her eyes and grumbled under her breath, "And you say I don't listen" Truthfully Betsy was just guessing, her self-diagnosis came from hours on the deep dark internet.

Betsy put her hands up in surrender, "Don't look at me, things still explode or...do other things..when I'm pissed or stressed." She glared daggers at Peter, crossing her arms over her chest. "Which is why I usually dont go to school. This hell hole is a sespool of anxiety, cologne, and homework."

Then she sighed , dropping what was left of her little fire show and taking a step closer to the two. "Though ive found that it helps to focus on something that keeps you grounded." Then Betsy's tone got quieter, looking away from the two of them. "Something that makes you human."

He stared at the two for a moment, and then considered the advice of both.
"Alright.. relax.. relax.." He said to himself, taking deep breaths. He balled both hands into fists and closed his eyes.
Something which makes him human... what made him human?
Family.
His mother and sister. They depend on him and that's what made him human. His family.
Slowly, the rocky greyness started to retreat and his normal skin tone returned to his body.

Peter watched silently as Damian's eyes closed and his breathing steadied. For a few moments they waited until suddenly the rock began fading away from his skin. A smile broke out aswell as a sigh of relief.
"Good, good." He nodded, looking around again and then checking his watch.

"Okay, I know this is sudden and alot to take it, but we need to meet afterschool. 4 o'clock by the old water tower in downtown. You have a gift just like us, and we intended on using them for good."

Betsy scoffed when Peter called it a gift, turning from the two and grabbing her shoes. With a scowl on her face she slipped the dreaded heeled boots back on, slipping her hands into her gloves and starting to head for the door. "Have fun with the last two periods." She remarked, her shoes making tapping noises as she walked.

Betsy planned on skipping the rest of the school day, her little fire show put her off more than she cared to admit. She needed a damn nap. School really wasn't good for her powers. She stopped in the doorway, looking over her shoulder briefly. "Dont pick me up tomorrow Peter. I'll drive myself." Then she was gone.

"Okay. Just remember though, you'll be protecting them too."

The last two periods dragged out for Peter especially without Betsy. As much as she took extra effort to keep in line and help, it gave schooltime more of a flare to say the least. It did however finally reach 4pm and Peter was waiting beneath the old water tower in Downtown Queens.

He did not have his Spiderman outfit on simply because he wouldn't need it for what he was going to show them. That and he didn't want to intimidate their newcomer with alter-egos and the like. All he had were his casual clothes and a backpack slung over one shoulder, as he stood waiting for the others.

There was a roar of a motorbike, a rider dressed in leather on top of it. The bike curved to a stop in front of Peter, the rider hopping down and putting the kick stand down with her foot. Betsy pulled the black helmet off her head, shaking her hair out and running a hand through it. There was a cold look on her face, but her eyes were glowing with golden fire. Needless to say she did not look pleased or happy.

She leaned against the bike, looking up at the water tower instead of at Peter. "How long is this going to take?" She sounded impatient, glancing at Peter's shoes for a moment as if taking notice that he wasn't wearing his costume, then she looked back up at the tower. "Social Services might be coming today or tomorrow, it wouldn't be good if I missed them."

"I understand, it won't take long." Peter nodded to them both, before beckoning them to follow. Taking a path underneath the tower and through an alley, they then turned into a small opening with a barrel in the middle. "Just gotta show you something." He grabbed the barrel and shifted it aside, revealing a small grated hatch. "Trust me."

Opening the hatch and climbing down, he descended a long ladder before reaching the very bottom. There they entered a large circular chamber with alcoves cut into the outer walls. It was dark at first until Peter flipped a switch, causing it to be illuminated by floodlights and the occasional machine. As it stood now it was barebones, but he would show them he had a vision.

"We can't keep having secret meetings in the school closet, and we can't exactly store anything in our lockers. It's not safe at all. The solution is our own little base." His arms stretched to showcase the room. "I know it's not great, but with a little work we can make it our own." Starting from the nearest alcove he began pointing out their different uses.

"First area is planning," He pointed to the alcove that housed a chalkboard along with an old plastic table and a random assortment of folding chairs.

"Then there's communications," The next alcove had a small radio box, along with a mess of wires and smaller machines. "Once we tap into the gang's networks we'll be able to listen from there. Also anyone who stays back can stay in touch with us through radio."

His hand then pointed to the next alcove.
"Gear," Inside there was a bench and some old rusty lockers, with a table pushed on the far side. "You know, in case you two get suits or something. Plus I can work on my suit."

"Finally there's some shelter," The last alcove had two small beds with some rough mattresses. "It's not a luxury hotel, but if any of us need to lay low for some reason then it's our best bet."

"Oh, and the big middle area is for everything else. Hanging out or training ourselves." He ended with a smile, obviously highly proud of his work. "Spent all weekend on this place, you like it?"
