Kick-off in Queens GlYTOaQ

"News just in; a shootout has started downtown between the Zao Tigers gang and the Reapers biker club. Witness reports suggest over thirty armed gunmen have began firing at each other in what is believed to be the largest firefight in Queens for a decade."

"Peter! Did you get eggs on the way home?"
"Erm, no sorry." The sixteen year old poked his head from around the bedroom door, looking at his aunt oddly. "But-" His eyes flickered to the TV. "I'll go get them now actually!" He nodded before retreating his head back out of sight.
"Don't you go near downtown! There's a nasty gang war again, the biggest they say." May's hand reached for Peter's door only to find it locked. "Peter?" Suddenly the door opened again to reveal her nephew dressed in a large jacket and jeans.
"It's cold outside, don't wanna catch anything." He smiled as he embraced his Aunt for a short moment. "Love you Aunt May." His leaving sentence made her smile too before she returned to her cooking.

Once out of the apartment Peter went up the stairs, hurrying to the roof. Just before going outside he turned left to a small maintenance room in which he ditched his jacket and jeans. By the time he left that room he was in nothing but his spider-suit; mask and all.

The next part was the hardest. Even as Spiderman heights weren't exactly enjoyable, but nevertheless he braced himself to get it done quickly. There were possible lives on the line, aswell as the chance of gaining leads on the gangs leaders.

With a deep breath Peter threw himself from the building, extending his arm to cast a web out to the adjacent one.

It was time to catch some bad guys.

Kick-off in Queens Empty Re: Kick-off in Queens

Underneath the sugar skull mask Betsy's face was twisted into an annoyed scowl, her gloved fingers tightening around her motorcycles handles as she coasted towards downtown. She wasnt here of her own choice, a favor to a friend really.

His girlfriend was downtown and he was at work and couldnt get to her right now, but wanted to know that she was safe from the gang war raging down there. The closer she got to her destination, the louder the sounds of bullets being fired became. Despite this there wasn't an ounce of fear in Betsy.

She also heard the sirens, a curse slipped out of her lips and she swiftly turned her bike into an alley. She would have to go the rest of the way on foot. Dismounting from her bike with a small thump she adjusted her mask, making sure it was secure.

Betsy crept out of the alley, carefully avoiding any prying eyes and keeping to the shadows until all she could hear were the sounds of shouted swears and bullets. Her friends girlfriends house wasn't far from here.

Betsy broke out into a run, her feet pounding softly against the pavement although the noise was swallowed by everything else. At least she thought it was.

"Who the **** are you?" Betsy whipped around and came face  to face with the barrel of a gun, an equally intimidating man behind it. Don't be scared, she thought.

Betsy focused on the gun, feeling the gravity pull beneath her feet. Just when the man was about to pull the trigger Betsy focused the gravity on the gun. The man let out a curse when the gun was suddenly pulled to the ground.

Betsy kicked him in the face for good measure before running off.

Kick-off in Queens Empty Re: Kick-off in Queens

Everytime Peter swung through the city on his thin webs it felt like the first time, he still hadn't got completely used to the feeling. It was almost like flying, something humans were never really meant to do. Still he was quite good at moving between the buildings, ever since becoming the Spiderman he had studied extra in his physics class to understand the velocity and momentum of his swings. The suburbs and lower areas were harder but still not impossible. His enhanced acrobatic ability meant he could jump and climb between houses and poles without making a sound.

Soon enough he landed atop a lamppost overlooking the alleyways near the shooting and spotted a man laid out on the floor. Silently he dropped down, crawling over to inspect the body. Upon getting closer he realized there was no wounds, only signs of a hit in the face.
"Strange," He monologued, before shooting a web up again to propel him towards the gunfight. His flight took him to the top of another house from which he could see the flash of gunfire, but also a figure running down the alleys.

Shooting another web he pulled himself towards her, landing right in her path.
"Excuse me," He said, noticing that the figure was wearing a mask. "It's dangerous this way, you might wanna turn back."

Betsy stopped suddenly, her head tilting to the side and looking at the equally masked man in confusion. Then she chuckled, her shoulders visibly relaxing. "Spiderboy, should have figured that New York's 'menace' would show up round here." She retorted before she flexed her arms.

"It's sweet that you think I need help, but I assure you..." Her grey eyes narrowed behind the mask, a strange glow flitting through them for a split second. "I am much more dangerous than any gangster with a gun."

The intense look dropped from her eyes and she moved swiftly, intending to simply go around him and run the rest of the way to Tanya's house. It wasn't far. "Now if you'll excuse me web-head, I have business to attend to."

"It's... It's Spiderman." He sighed, trying his best to sound older than he actually was. For a moment he stared at her eyes, wondering whether he'd imagined the glow in them or not. Maybe they were just lights, some kinda of punk gang thing? Either way the girl didn't intend on sticking around.

"Nuh-uh." His hand stretch out and with it a strand of web shot at her, aiming to latch onto her back and pull her. "Look I don't know what your gimmick is with the face-punching and the lighty eye thing, but I might need your help." Peter choked back a crack in voice, trying to be as sincere as possible. "There's a gang war as you might have heard, and I'm guessing your business is to do with it. So why not help stop it?"

"Don't you wanna do some good?"

Betsy felt a moments irritation at the web attached to her favorite leather jacket, then her lips curled into a Cheshire grin underneath her mask. "Why is THE Spiderman asking little old Corona for help?" She mocked, a thrill ran through her. He obviously didn't know what the mask meant, although not many people did. Sun Skull was a minor gang and was more of an annoyance on the police's list than a major bust.

"Fine, I'll help. But only if I get to punch people." Her eyes flicked again, this time on purpose just to mess with the spider. "I'm no hero, one time thing only." Betsy didn't try and sound older than she was, either way what were the odds that Spidey Boy would recognize or know her voice anyway?

Betsy pulled off a glove, casually reaching behind her and grasping the web string. For a brief moment her hand glowed, then suddenly it was on fire and quickly burning the web string. The second the two were no longer connected Betsy let her power fade, she'd burn the rest of the stuff off her jacket later.

Betsy started to walk out of the alley before she stopped, turning back as the glow seemed to stay in her eyes this time and made them look like flames instead of silver. "You know, if you're going to try and sound older maybe you should use some kinda voice tech." Betsy chuckled. "But considering the fact that you aren't....I'm still calling you Spider-Boy." Then she winked and started running, but this time in the direction of the sounds of gunfire.

To the sound of her compliance Peter nodded, smiling underneath his mask. Her reluctance to do good brought back a small worry inside of him. Not too long ago he had refused to do good with his powers when he had the chance and now his uncle was dead because of it. For the sake of Ben he wanted to make sure he accepted his responsibility to do the right thing, and as part of that he'd make sure this girl did too.

"Voice tech, huh?" The idea appealed to him somewhat, but he had little time to think about it as she started to run off. "Hey! Shouldn't we like... make a plan or something?" His words were useless it seemed and so he broke into a run behind her. Arm outstretched he then shot out a web to the nearest lamppost, propelling himself up and towards the gunfight. On his way past he shouted down to her.
"Race you there!"

"You're on arachnoidiot!" Betsy shouted back, her feet pounding against the pavement as she ran. For a split second she longed for her bike, but there was no sense in going back for it now.

She quickly reached the gunfire, her eyes roaming the streets. She could see the glints of metal jacket spikes from the bikers and the colored clothing from the Tiger gang. "Plans are for suckers." She cracked her knuckles, it always brought her an obscene amount of joy to take down someone much bigger than her 5'5'' self.

Betsy ran in so quickly that the first gang member didn't even see her, but he sure felt her foot in his crown jewels. He let out a yowl and hit the deck, Betsy kicking the gun away from him as she slammed her fist into another guys face. She heard the click of a hammer being pulled back from her left, turning quickly as she eyed another barrel of another gun.

This time she wouldn't have the time to manipulate the gravity of the small object, her hands coming up in front of her defensively. The air around her grew so hot that the cement beneath her boots was melting, which was exactly what happened to the bullets that he fired at her.

She kicked the gun out of his hand when the clip emptied, then she slammed her fist into his chest. She turned with a rush of adrenaline ready to go when she heard a bullet nearby, wanting to jump out of her skin when she felt it whiz by her head.

"That doesn't even make sense!" Peter quipped in response, landing down atop one of the gang member's car. It took them a moment to register that Spiderman was here, but once they did all guns turned straight to him. Luckily though he had reflexes on his side so he could act first.

His first two shots of web latched on to a pair of guns, yanking them from the hands of their wielders. The next shot hit the ground, pulling him inbetween the two so that he could close the distance and crouch down. From there he shot two more, one at each before pulling them together hard. The two gangster smacked into each other headfirst, knocking both of them out cold.

Spidey senses alerted, his gaze quickly turned to another armed thug. This time he closed the gap through superior speed, delivering a swift strike to the arm so that his aim was off target. Without a barrel aimed at him he could throw another series of punches, finishing off the combo with an elbow to the face.

By this time every shooter around them had caught on to what was happening, especially with the display the girl was putting on. Even Peter himself saw the way the bullets melted before her.
"How-" His word was cut out by more gunfire to dodge. These gangsters sure didn't know when to quit...

Kick-off in Queens Empty Re: Kick-off in Queens

Betsy launched at the gunmen who had just fired off a bullet near her head, her action surprising him enough that she manged to knock him down. She didn't give him a chance to react, slamming her fist into his face and grinning when she heard a crack. She had probably just broken his nose.

"Doesn't have to make sense to be quite fitting sweetheart!" Betsy teased, getting up and off of the currently unconscious gang member. "I can come up with something else if yo-" Betsy was cut off as one of the gangsters took a page from her playbook, launching at her and nailing her to the ground.

A savage rage pounded through Betsy and her power curled around it, coddling it and giving it an outlet. The smell of burning leather filled the air, her other glove was burning off her hands. She met the gangsters wide-eyed stare head on, eyes flickering like gold flames. "You really....really shouldn't have touched me."

She put her glowing bare palms on his face, eliciting a painfilled scream from the gangster. Her white-hot palms were burning into his face, possibly branding him for life. It took a few seconds of him screaming before Betsy realized what she was doing, ripping her hands from his face and shoving him off of her.

She looked around with a wild fire in her eyes, but it died within an instant as she snuffed it out. Keep it together Betsy, She scolded herself, You can't lose control. Not here.

She went back into the fray, trying to ignore the smell of burnt flesh as she punched and kicked her way through other gangsters. Once or twice she felt a bullet whizz past her shoulder, grazing her upper arm. She also felt them by her side, but they were just grazes. Most of them melted after they came into contact with her.

Taking cover behind a car for the moment, Peter examined what Betsy was doing. Part of him wanted to rush to her rescue when she was tackled down but it seemed there was no need. The way he screamed made him flinch.
"Hey, keep them alive! We need to question them!" He shouted over the remaining gunfire still coming in.

Once she finished branding the man Peter left his cover, shooting small blasts of web to tie together the hands and feet of one thug. His friend quickly turned and let out a hail of bullets, but Spidey was already above him and coming down atop. Kicking the man to the ground he knocked his gun aside, then webbed him to the floor quickly.

Only now did some of the gangster get the message, stowing their arms to try and escape.
"Where do you think you're going?" Peter smirked, latching his web onto one and yanking on it hard. The man flew across the open area and towards Betsy. "Heads up firehands!" He warned her.

"Uh uh, I only agreed to punching a couple heads not any questioning!" She hollered back at the spider, crossing her arms over her chest with a huff. She slammed her fist into another gangster, although before that he had gotten a good whack at her face. There was a large crack in her mask now, but by some miracle it managed to hold.

Betsy instantly side stepped the man flying towards her, watching him land with a heap before she looked at the spider. A migraine was forming behind her left eye, something that happened when she lost control of her powers or used too much. "What the hell did you expect me to do web for brains? Catch him? I don't have super strength!" She growled at him and kicked the man beside her in the head, effectively knocking him out if the landing hadn't already.

"How do you even plan on questioning them huh? Soon as it stops raining bullets the police will descend on this block!" Betsy sounded slightly skittish as she talked about the police, and she should be. Police around her neighborhood had gotten pretty fed up about the late night complaints about her little gang. No one knew who they were so no one was ever arrested.

"Well you seemed to have every other superpower going for you." He smirked, shooting a web without looking that bound a thug's hands to the wall beside him.
"Let me go you freak, I'll-" His shouting was cut off by another web covering his mouth.
"Okay you have a point. The police tolerate me but I don't know what they'll think of you." Peter sighed as he looked around. The place was quiet now except for the quiet murmurs of injured thugs. Now that the bullets had stopped police sirens could be heard in the distance.

"Quick, follow me." Spidey broke into a run, beckoning Betsy to follow. Taking the alley path away from the sound of sirens, they cut through a backstreet before entering a small area that seemed to be the staff entrance of a bar, probably where the workers came out to smoke. "Look, I don't know who you are or how the hell no one's noticed your yellow hand business, but you've got some serious firepower. I mean literally." He stepped back for a moment, resting against the wall while he placed his hand on his head.

"Corona, but that isn't a superhero name." There was sarcasm laced into her tone, leaning her back against the wall as she brought her hand to her head. Her eyes were glowing wildly, at least until she closed and reopened them again.

"Id appreciate it if you didn't go around telling people about my 'yellow hand business' Spiderboy. Being a mutant is not something you broadcast. " She sounded weary, and if he were able to see behind the mask he would know she looked it too.

"Thanks for the good time. But I should split." She pushed off the wall but she swayed on her feet for moment. Damn, she must have used more power than she thought. She stopped and turned to Spiderman for a minute. "If you wanna know who I am, look up Sun Skull."

Then she turned and gave him a wave over her shoulder, beginning to walk a bit unsteadily from the alley.

"Corona... Right..." Peter said, too busy staring at her glowing eyes. "Yeah, no problem. I just didn't think there was anyone else like me..." He nodded whilst breathing out. For all the abilities he'd gained he could still feel the strain of fighting.

"Sun Skull, got it." He said more to himself as she walked off, trying to process what had just happened. There was another supernatural like him in Queens. If that could happen then how many could be hiding in the world?

Dismissing his grand thoughts for now since his night had been eventful enough, he shot a web up to propel himself atop the buildings.

It was getting close to midnight and he still needed to get those eggs...

The next day Betsy and her little gang were up to their old tricks, graffiting the side of a bridge in their neighborhood. There were four other members on Betsy's little gang; Jason or T-Rod, Colette or Splatz, Holden or Viper, and Tiffany or Siren. "Oi, Earth to Corona. Does your deaf butt copy?"

"What?" Betsy turned to look at Splatz, a look of confusion on her face. "Your still thinking about Spidey aren't you?" "Why wouldn't she be? Their little team up was dope as hell." Splatz smacked the back of T-Rod's head, making the boy yelp. "Hey what was that for?!" "Say dope as hell one more time and I'll repeat how Corona gave you your name."

"I'm not thinking about it." Betsy fibbed easily, truthfully the rush she got from fighting like she had yesterday was intoxicating. She had hardly slept after despite her raging headache. "Oh really? Then whyd you paint him?" "What? Come on I didn't - aw damn it!" Betsy ignored Sirens laugh and grabbed a black can of spray paint, poised to spray an X through it.

Peter hadn't slept much that night, his mind was too busy comprehending the fact he wasn't alone. Instead of laying in bed he decided to make himself useful and research the Sun Skull as he'd been told. Low level nuisance in Queens, it seemed they had a few regular graffiti spots every so often. Making a note of them before finally slept, he knew the next morning he'd find her again.

"Morning Aunt May," Peter chirped happily, dressed thickly again to conceal his Spidersuit.
"Morning Peter, have you done your homework?" His Aunt replied with concern, raising her eyebrows at him.
"Yep, stayed up late for it." He said, which wasn't exactly a lie.

Minutes later he was fully masked and swinging through the streets, eyes on the look out for any Sun Skulls. At first he had no luck at some of their usual spots, but when he reached the bridge leaving downtown he noticed a group of kids that fit the description. Letting himself drop he clung onto the bridge above them, listening in to their conversations.

"Don't you dare destroy that Corona all I'll shove a spray can up where it isnt supposed to be!" "Its my art Splatz." "Well I'm the art major and I no." "Fine." Corona dropped the spray can but that didn't stop her from snagging a paintbrush and swiping it across the spidermans face in the form of a mustache.

"You seem a lot better than you did yesterday. You looked paler than you normally do, and like you were gonna throw up." Viper piped up and Betsy flinched, she had had a nasty headache after using her powers so much.

"Oo! Oo! That reminds me! You never told us what Spiderman was like. " Tiffany nudged, a smirk starting to curl on Betsy's lips.

"Well, I can't help that last part." Spidey dropped down into a crouch behind them, looking particularly at Corona. "Looks like I found you," His gaze flickered between the others for a moment as he added. "All."

Straightening himself up he walked over to the walls, examining the art of himself. A light laugh came from him before he turned to face them again.
"Nice work, you do Art at school?" He asked, trying to get as much information about who they really were as he could.

Tiffany nudged Betsy and she elbowed her in the side. "You know Spiderboy when I said look up Sun Skulls I meant it sarcastically." She spoke with a roll of her eyes, leaning against the side of the painting. "To do art in school I would have to actually go."

Then she smirked, "You're fishing aren't you?" "Uh oh, that tone is never good." Splatz whispered to Siren, who nodded her head. "If you have questions just ask them, can't guarantee that I'll answer them though."

"Well I couldn't just let you wander around wasting your talents." He replied, gesturing to the paintings but really referring to her powers. "You don't go to school? How come?"

"Maybe I am fishing, I'm curious. In fact, can we talk in private? Without your skull buddies." Peter looked at her friends, low key checking whether they were armed or not. He had to be careful after all.

"They arent armed but yeah sure." Corona waved them off and they all rolled their eyes and began to leave, Siren had to be dragged away whining about how she wanted to listen.  There was a roar of motorbikes before the road was quiet.

"I dont go to school because adults dont like me." She turned, starting to mess around with the Spiderman painting and painting over the mustache. "Its better anyway."

She didn't think he understood why she hadn't come forward and became a hero like him. "Watch." She pulled off a glove, picking up a stray chunk of metal that had fallen from the degraded bridge.

Her hand started to glow, tightening around the metal in her fist. Within seconds something silver was leaking out of the side of her hands, it was the metal. She opened her palm to reveal a pool of bubbling steel in her hand. "If I'm not careful I could do this to a person. So this? Not a talent. Curse."

Peter could relax more when the rest of the gang left, focusing solely on Corona. Waiting until they had rode off out of earshot, he spoke with a more serious tone.
"You can't avoid school because you fear you'll hurt someone. These powers you have come with a great price; responsibility. My uncle died because I refused to act with the powers I was given and I won't let that happen again." His eyes even through the mask were clearly locked on her, scanning for reaction.

"Until yesterday I thought I was the only freak in town, but seems I'm not. That means you're not either." A sigh escaped his lips. "Just give it a try. You can't deny we made a good team yesterday, we could do some real good. Besides, what if there's more like us?"

Betsy's response was to take the mask off her face, but she was wearing a ton of costume makeup on her face. "I'm not like you." She said firmly, her eyes starting to glow with golden flames.  "I can never be like you." There was pain in her eyes, a deep sadness reflected in them when she met his before she looked away.

"We made a good team yesterday true, but we weren't exactly saving anyone. I'm incapable of doing that." She turned and dragged her fingertips across the wall, leaving shallow smoking grooves behind.

"You may think im being dramatic but I'm not. Your powers are different from mine. They're so much less destructive. People will never look at me the way they look at you." Her sadness was mixing into her voice, the tough sarcastic bravado completely gone.

"They'll be scared of me. Just like everyone else was. People call you a freak but they also call you a hero. I'm just a freak who can accidentally kill someone with just a touch." She sighed, her glowing palm pressing into the brick of the bridge.

"I'm sorry about your uncle truly, but people get hurt because I act." She turned to Spiderman, her face deathly serious. "Do you honestly want to be my babysitter during a fight?"

Kick-off in Queens Empty Re: Kick-off in Queens

Post by Peter Parker Fri Oct 14, 2016 2:53 pm

If there was one thing Peter vowed to do as Spiderman, it was to never give up. He sure as hell wasn't giving up on this girl now. His eyes scanned her face as she revealed herself, albeit with alot of makeup.
"You may think you can't be a hero, but anyone can. People will only be scared if you give them reason to, intentionally." He nodded to the graffiti on the walls. "This isn't going to make them like you. You've got to atleast try."

"If we didnt stop that gunfight, then they could've killed each other. Or worse, police officers could've been killed confronting them. Through consequence we saved lives." Peter sighed, reaching up to his mask. Ensuring he was underneath the bridge and out of sight of anyone else, he pulled it off to reveal himself.

"Give me a chance atleast. Let me help you. I believe you can master your powers, and until then you can still do good with them. People won't need to be afraid of you." He gave a small smile.

"I promise."
